Philadelphia is the poorest big city in America. A quarter of Philadelphians lives in poverty. It is also an important historical site for the nation and the world, a beacon of liberty. These facts can make for strange combinations, both socio-economic and racial. I have tried to capture some of these contrasts in this ongoing project. My pictures are observations more than humanitarian gestures, but they are always made with the hope of creating some insight into the way that people live.
