This personal project is a photo essay about the diversity of New York’s birding community. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, birding had become a relaxing hobby for many in our city and, as a professional photographer and birder, I was struck by an unfortunate incident in Central Park between a birder and dog owner. This fueled my interest in the various types of people who call birding a hobby in New York City. My subjects are anyone who considers birding an interest. They are beginners to advanced birders. The common theme to all is that they share a love of birds.
